Golden Rod Final Here We Come!

Just had a cracking day at Decoy Lakes for the latest Golden Rod qualifier, despite the Arctic winds straight into my face. With a few anglers put off by the weather forecast it meant everyone had some room and I really fancied it when I pulled out peg 24 on Beastie. A great peg on the lake, but in a split qualifying zone with Horseshoe, so I needed to make the most of it.

After an hour I’d got just one F1 and a couple of silvers and no one else was catching. After a bit of searching around I eventually located a shoal of fish. From that point I caught a mixture of F1s, big carp to 10lb, plus a surprise 2lb perch.

My 87lb total was enough for a lake win, 2nd in the match and the all-important zone win.

Most of my fish were caught on a maggot feeder and double maggot, using my trusty 10’ 10” Horizon XS Slim rod, Horizon 3000 reel, 6lb Carp Master sinking mono to an 0.16 Power Micron hooklength and size 16 prototype hook. Never lost a fish all day!

Elsewhere, Simon Skelton blitzed the match with 141lb from peg 22 on Oak and Matty Pillay took the other qualifying spot with 63lb from Elm 24. We’ve got a nice two-day Final at Larford to look forward to now, with £12,000 to the winner!
