Good Times At Boddington

John and Sticky

I was kindly invited to a friendly match on the dam wall at Boddington Reservoir on Monday. It was organised by John Kiddle and Andrew ‘Sticky’ Sharp who’s bravely going through chemo at the moment. It’s the same crazy gang I’ve fished with at Bristol Docks and once again we had a mid-match break with rolls and cakes generously supplied by Sticky!

After a really poor run at the drawbag I was surprised and relieved to draw end peg 3. It was always going to be the best peg on the day, winning with 127lb. Six big carp to 19lb on the pellet wag and three on the bomb. These carp put a serious curve in a Horizon 12ft Waggler rod and I got through a few bags of Sonubaits 8mm Fin Perfect pellets.

The Boddington gang

It also included 8lb of roach as I’d saved the previous day’s river groundbait and fancied having a quick go for them close in, just to rest my arms. Never got the roach swim quite right, but it was interesting fishing with pike striking all over the place.

A really great day, lots of banter, just about missing the worst of the rain, and the most I’ve smiled in a long time.

Watch the film of the day!
