Riverfest Finalist

I was runner up on the 80-peg Burton Joyce Riverfest qualifier yesterday and managed to qualify again for the Final!

I drew peg 11 on the Rack, which was the second peg below the pylons and a section I’d not seen before. I was told there was a chance of a bream or two in the area, but the river was apparently fishing very hard in recent matches.

I fed three swims; 11m with groundbait, baitdroppered a 5m flat float swim and a feeder swim down the middle. Rotating lines, after a couple of hours I’d just got a few pound of dace and bits and was not really going anywhere. I knew I had to catch a bream and with two hours to go I was finally rewarded with five in as many chucks. I managed three more before the whistle, not losing any, to weigh 29lb 6oz and a golden ticket.

I used a Matrix Horizon 12ft Distance Feeder rod and a 60g Matrix open end feeder just held in the strong current, plugged with a strong mix of Sonubaits 50:50 Method & Paste, which is the same gear I had my barbel on a few days ago.

Well done Rob Perkins winning with 49lb, plus Richard Wood and Alan Henry for also qualifying.

A well earned day off with the family today.
