Avon Angling
Some photos from a superb day spent with John, christening his pole on the River Avon in Stratford. The river was extra clear, despite heavy rain leading up to the session, but thankfully the fish were obliging.
We fed my favourite mix of Sonubaits Deep Water, Roach and soil at 11 metres and loose fed hemp and casters over the top. By alternating three rigs John put a procession of fish in the net. Maggots to start with, then casters and then a nice flurry of redfins on hempseed. A big bonus perch put up a great scrap and John did well to keep it out of the cabbages… unlike the one I managed to hook and lose!
It prompted me to return to the river a week later and try and catch a few perch with an underwater camera. The film, Underwater Perch Session, is now up on my channel and I’ve had some good feedback already.
The Avon through Stratford is controlled by Leamington Spa Angling Association with day tickets available on the bank. It’s a town centre stretch that gets extremely busy, but still a great place to fish if you put the blinkers on!
