UK Junior Champs
Great to see all the young stars at yesterday’s UK Junior Championship, ran by Preston Innovations, Sonubaits and Matrix. It was a scorching hot day but still plenty of fish caught and really impressive angling displays by all of the boys and girls.
I was lucky to sit with Oliver Downs and Owen Norgrove and they both fished exceptionally well, despite the heat, to put together tidy bags of fish. The carp were certainly not easy to catch or spot from our corner of the lake, but they both worked hard and really honed their mugging skills, which is a bit of an artform in itself, boosted with some hard-fighting fish tempted closer in. It’s frightening to see how good they both were compared to how I was at their age!
I had not been to Cob House Fishery for many years, so it was impressive to see how much it has developed in that time. The fish have certainly grown a bit!
Congratulations to Jenson Ludgate and Freddie Harper-Wojtyla for the top two weights on the day, a great side-by-side battle catching over 100lb apiece in just three hours and being just 15oz apart at the end.
Some fantastic prizes and goodies from Preston, Sonubaits and Matrix were dished out. Must also give a big shout out to all the parents and guardians for working so hard behind the scenes to support and encourage all these juniors.
A great event. Long may it continue!
