Winter League Time

A couple of decent winter league matches at the weekend. Saturday was the first round of the Tunnel Barn teams of four with 15 teams fishing. Peg 14 on New Pool for me, which I wasn’t overly optimistic about, so I was pleased to get 4th on my lake with 53lb. A shallow and narrow peg with a bubbler on in front of me, so I caught best down the edge, but annoyingly lost three carp, one on a big snag down the middle. It’s fished really moody but we put in a solid performance to win the day. Long way to go, but a nice start.

Lake win and 3rd overall at Packington with 57lb on Siblings A

Sunday was the second round of the Packington individual league. A bit unsure after drawing Peg 2 on Siblings A, but there’s always the chance of a carp or two on this little donut-shaped lake. Just one 6lber on bread plus a few silvers after two hours wasn’t looking good. Just like Tunnel, fish were topping everywhere but they just don’t want to feed. I kept firing up different lines and eventually found a few decent fish, mostly short and down the sides. My 57lb won the section and was surprisingly enough for 3rd in the match.

Both days I’ve caught best on maggots and Sonubaits F1 and Supercrush Green. Two shallow pegs, so I’ve stuck with short kits and Matrix F1 Slims from 0.15g to 0.3g. I think high pressure, clearing water and the first big fall of leaves are affecting a lot of lakes at the moment, so hopefully things will pick up soon.

For anyone that’s interested, I’ve done an in-depth film on the tactics I’m currently using in my YouTube members area. It’s a tip-packed two hours at Tunnel Barn and I’ve already had a really positive response.
