Xmas Trio Of Matches
Friday was the Packington Christmas match with over 90 anglers on it. Peg 23 on Little Gearys didn’t fill me with much optimism and after five gruelling hours I had the grand total of one F1, two skimmers and a roach for a thanks for coming. Well done Martin Wood winning with 52lb from Molands 60.
Next day I made up for things on the Tunnel Barn open on House and Top pools. After enviously watching so many other drawbags sat on House 6, I finally managed to draw it myself for the first time in a few years. Thankfully I didn’t mess it up too much and weighed 77lb for the match win. Would definitely like to draw it a few more times this winter…
Back to Packington today on the individual league, where it’s all too easy to go from hero to zero. My rotation saw me on Siblings, which I was happy with, but not quite so happy when I pulled 13B out of the bag. The water’s clear and this peg is no more than 3.5ft deep anywhere, so I wasn’t at all surprised to wait four hours before I finally caught an F1, fishing as far to my left as possible.
I ended up catching 8 in the last hour to go with 1lb of sprats in the first four hours to total 24lb 12oz. Surprisingly good enough for 4th in section. I’ll definitely take that from there. Well done Steve Daley winning our lake with 40lb from 5B and Ian Keywood winning the match with 70lb off Gearys 36.
Strung out 0.2g and 0.3g Matrix F1 Slims with 8-10 Slik doing the most damage lately, with maggots, bread, micros and a bit of Sonubaits Supercrush Expander on the sidetray.
Winter has well and truly arrived!
