My Best Ever Maggot Feeder Session
Yesterday was wild, wet and really windy on the Packington Winter League, but no complaints as I’ve drawn peg 9 on Little Gearys. This is one of the most consistent pegs on the entire venue and I’ve had one of my best day’s ever on the maggot feeder, catching 102lb 10oz!
That was mostly F1s from 1lb to 5lb plus two carp to 5lb. All but one were on the maggot feeder. That gave me a very nice lake win and 2nd overall in the match, behind Lee Richards’ 111lb off Big Gearys 30, which apparently included a 22lb specimen!
My rod of choice was a sublime Matrix Horizon Pro 10ft Bomb rod. I’ve used a medium-sized 20g Matrix Maggot Feeder, fitted with the optional swivel stem rather than inline. This is my favoured winter setup and has been absolutely perfect with double maggot on a size 16 hook and a 0.12mm bottom and altering the tail length anywhere from 12in to 2ft.
What a day in January and amazingly my second 100lb of 2025!
Conditions were atrocious but I’ll hopefully be able to voice over the film footage I took for a forthcoming Channel Members vid!
