Low-Weight Weekend!
A rather low-weight weekend! Not too surprising with the weather being so bad in the week. Saturday was the penultimate round of the Tunnel Barn teams of four. We sacked captain Jack from drawing and I did the honours, pulling out four steady looking pegs. Certainly better than Jack’s recent efforts!
I was on House 14 and managed a whopping 13lb of little F1s and a couple of skimmers. Only caught long and I’d catch one fish and then have to move to catch a second, plus six on the maggot feeder to get me out of jail.
House fished possibly the worst I’ve ever known and I was 7th out of 15 anglers with that low weight, with two top anglers having 5lb and 7lb to my left! All the recent ice melting and cold water had really balled the fish up.
Well done Dave Brown smashing the lake and the match with a bread-dobbed 64lb from peg 31. My Team Dynamite crew did brilliantly with Ben Sharp and James Fowkes recording 2nds off New 44 and Top 22 and Jack worked really hard for a 5th on Extension 36, so we came 3rd on the day.
On the team front things suddenly got very interesting. Several teams blew out while we scored a great 48 pointer to rocket ourselves back up to 2nd in the league with a round to go. After nine rounds we are just two points behind South West and a point ahead of NuFish, so it’ll be a proper nail-biting last round!
I’d like to end the report there, but the next day I was on the Packington Winter League, fully expecting a grueller. I’ve had a whopping 7lb 14oz off peg 10 on Gearys, which was a single carp, four hybrids and a big roach. The high bank pegs were really dire, but we all had a good view of Steve Daley on the opposite bank blitzing the match with 120lb from peg 33!
It’s very cold, wet and miserable today, but the snowdrops in my garden are popping up to say hello… so ‘hopefully’ things will start to warm up very soon!
