Two Days At Tunnel

Two days at Tunnel getting plenty of bites. There are fish in every peg, but those bigger F1s are definitely following the wind. If you can get a peg that’s the windward end it can be solid. That was the case for me on Saturday’s 37 pegger, catching 142lb for 2nd overall from peg 10 on New.

I totally messed up the first hour with just a few pounds in the net, but finally sorted things out and had a great day, catching shallow on a couple of lines and then a fast end down the edge on maggots over groundbait. Match Method Mix and a bit of F1 Original, which is my go-to edge mix this time of year at Tunnel. I normally opt for Mud Lines for my shallow edge fishing, but if it’s a little deeper I go for 0.3g and 0.4g Stubby Slims instead.

Definitely could have caught a few more, but was never going to push Jamie Adcock who’s smashed the match with 186lb from Club 21.

Sunday I had a much tougher day on House 8. It can be an awesome peg, but as I sat there and saw the wind hacking down towards peg 2 I really didn’t fancy it. I drove through a load of rain in the morning and maybe that’s why the lake’s fished a bit moody? Just one missed bite short at the start confirmed my reservations and I had to chuck a feeder to the island to put 10 F1s in the net early doors. It was fun doing a bit of 20m chucking with the trusty 9ft Horizon Bomb, but I sadly wasn’t catching fast or big enough.

I could just about hold 10m in the wind but only managed three fish shallow all day. I had a few full depth on worm over the top but it was hard work. On the fourth hour I eventually had a run of fish short and down the edge, but the last hour was back to being a struggle. Had to fish Slim Wire floats to maintain any sort of presentation with the cold blustery wind and probably should have stuck to potting to try and tighten things up as my bait was going everywhere!

I’ve ended up with 74lb, which was surprisingly the best weight from pegs 4 to 16. A day’s fishing and plenty to think about for my next visit. Maybe I should have persevered on the feeder? That man Jamie Adcock won again, this time with 138lb from House 22, but surprisingly the next six framing weights all came off Extension.

No fishing today as we’re off to the fun fair and praying the weather’s nice. Hope you’ve all had a good weekend.
