I fished the afternoon open at Meadowlands last night. My first proper carp match for over a month! With a nice wind on the lake I thought it\u2019d fish its nuts off, so I was scratching my head after three hours with just three skimmers in my net!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I drew peg 19 in the far corner, which was coincidentally where I was the last time I fished the lake. That was ages ago and the vegetation has really grown up since then and the lake has dropped at least a foot in these drought conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I clearly fished far too positively early doors when I should have just been nice and tidy and patient. However, I\u2019d got a load of old bait that I really wanted to use up and tried to force things way too much, plus my bomb line never produced. It sounded like a similar story all over the lake, though, with plenty of bubbles, but no hooked fish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thankfully I\u2019ve caught some carp the last 90 minutes and ended up with 95lb for 4th and the final envelope. I can\u2019t say I\u2019ve fished very well and deserved that to be honest though! Well done Ollie Sleath winning with 200lb from peg 15 and Pete Caton just behind him in 2nd. Those two weights were head and shoulders above everyone else on the day, but the rest of us in the chasing pack were pretty close together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is an extra snaggy peg and with the water levels well down and turbo-charged carp I used my extra strong XTR400 pole, 18-20 Slik and 0.23mm Power Silk. You\u2019re sat quite high up off the water at the moment, so a 3.5m Ethos XR Power Handle makes a big difference with reach and lifting strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lost a few, got snagged up a few times and came back with plenty of strange shaped sticks on the day. We even had some mysterious wet stuff falling from the sky. I think it\u2019s called rain? Plenty of room for improvement and tactical changes, but it was good to be back at a great venue. A lovely rainbow over the venue as we packed away too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
