Two Days At Southend Farm

Just spent the last couple of days down at Southend Farm on a two-dayer. A great little event with lots of friendly faces in attendance. It’s always nice trying to get to grips with a new venue, especially when it’s full of quality silverfish. Even though the weights are great I’ve quickly learnt that the fish can still be quite tricky to catch, especially with the cold mornings we’re having.

On Day 1 I’ve had a lovely day catching 31lb 8oz from peg 30. Highlight was a nice big 2lb perch. Day 2 I’ve managed 32lb 8oz from peg 28. Highlight was fishing in a t-shirt all day!

Overall my 64lb total gave me the 3rd prize envelope with Dean Hunt taking 2nd and Dan Bowen miles ahead with an 89lb total. Steve Livingstone would’ve been second, by the way, but he didn’t go in the two-day pools.

Great venue. Plenty of depth and a bit of colour, so used Thatchers and F1 Original groundbait and really experimented with every bait imaginable as I’m back there on the Fish South Silvers Final next week. Nice to be fishing a deep venue with my ever-impressive XTR 700 pole. I ‘think’ I have half a plan whizzing through my head now, but a good draw on those bigger skimmers will be vital.

A very short and sweet report as we’re off out for my wife’s birthday today!
