5th On The Thames Champs

Just one nice big match this weekend, which was the Thames Championship with 13 teams of six fishing at Clanfield, Grafton and Radcot.

I was guesting for Isis Match Group and was handed peg C10 at Radcot, a couple of pegs from where I drew on the Swan Open. A bit wet and windy but a decent day, finishing second in the zone again and a section envelope with 13lb 12oz. That was the fifth best weight on the day too. 

A few early little dace and roach short over groundbait (Sonubaits Deep Water, Roach and soil), four chunky perch on worm and roach of all sizes on hemp. Gutted when a resident pike took my first decent redfin, but apart from sniffing a couple of other fish it was fairly well behaved after that. 

Charlie Vallander won the zone and was 3rd individual with 17lb from peg 2. Paul Bick had a couple of big chub in his 18lb runner-up catch from Clanfield and Alex Clements smashed it individually with 43lb of big chub from Grafton. Well done those three, plus Daiwa Dorking who were the top team on the day.

I think that’s probably my last river match for a bit. Had a great little run on the Thames, but it’s time to get back on the commercials and silverfish season is just around the corner.
