Good Start To Silverfish Season
Decent start to the silverfish season this windy weekend and a good test for the new pole. Saturday I was on the silvers open at Packington. Thankfully I drew a sheltered peg 39 on Gearys, but that also meant I had a peg full of leaves and non-counting carp…
The carp really slowed things down each time, but thankfully the skimmers were a good size. Ended up with 29lb 15oz which was enough for 3rd. Well done Kev Folwell on the win and Jack Shirley second. Caught best with maggots and worms over Sonubaits F1 Original and Thatchers.
Today was the first AT Silverfish qualifier of the year at Bishops Bowl. I drew on New Greenhills, which was a totally new lake for most of us.
The wind really limited my options, so I just fed around 8m out and a feeder swim. Same mix as day before. A really slow start on the pole, so I swapped to a cage feeder and started to get a few bites. Mostly baby carp up to 12oz, but every now and again I’d get a hand-sized skimmer to keep me interested.
Eventually noticed a few fish being caught, so I spent the rest of the match on the pole. Roach early, plus the odd rudd, then a few skimmers moved in. Also had seven little tench and one nudging 2lb.
I ended up with 22lb 9oz, which was 2nd on the lake and joint 2nd overall. Josh Palmer next door won and qualified with 24lb 6oz, which included a nice bonus 5lb bream! Darren Davies was the other qualifier with 22lb 9oz from White Bishop lake. Well done both. Onto the next one.
