Nice Day With Ben At Barby

It was great to get back to Barby Banks last week. It’s a venue I used to fish when I worked in Daventry, but only seem to get to visit once or twice a year these days. That’s a great shame as it’s a cracking snake lake in Warwickshire (nearest postcode: CV23 8UU) and right up my street. I was there with Ben to go through the finer points of catching a few carp.

It was a difficult start and the fish were a bit moody in the hot and humid conditions, but we sneaked a few out on hard pellets up and down in the water. Later on they turned up down the edge and that was by far the best line. We kicked off with a standard corn and micros approach, but swapping to dead maggots was a revelation and really increased the catch rate. It’s a tactic that Ben hadn’t fished before, but I’m pretty sure he’ll be trying it again on his next visit!

A big thanks to Richard at Barby Banks for having us. A great venue to check out if you like getting your elastic stretched!
