93lb Of Silvers In Two Days!

Well the weekend was very poor fishing for me, struggling to catch carp and F1s, but I made up for that by winning the Meadowlands Silvers two-dayer!

Saturday I arrived at Top Pool 5 at Tunnel Barn for Rd1 of the teams of four to find 20 ducks cleaning themselves off and dive-bombing my peg. They barely shifted all day despite me repeatedly chasing them with my pole so it’s not much wonder that I struggled to catch anything til the last hour. Only beat three or four anglers with 33lb. A lost carp in the dying minutes cost me four places too. Not the best of days…

Next day I was at Packington and the entire venue fished rock hard. I drew Sibs A9 and it took 2.5 hours to finally catch a 4oz F1. Eventually found six carp on bread for a whopping 16lb and nowhere.

Bounced back on Monday, winning the first day of the Meadowlands Silvers with 50lb 3oz from peg 40 on the pump bank. The wind was horrific and waves 1ft high at times, but it really woke the fish up. I had three hours catching mostly chunky roach then a few skimmers arrived later on. Ten carp the last hour gate-crashed the party, but it was still an unbelievably good day’s fishing. Far too windy to get the pellets out, so I caught on maggots, casters and worms with the ever-faithful Sonubaits F1 and Thatchers combo.

Day 2 I was on peg 20 in the deeps. It wasn’t quite so windy and I’ve had a busy day again, catching roach and perch for an hour then mostly hand-sized skimmers and the odd better one. My 42lb 13oz was enough for 3rd on the day and my 93lb total secured the win. Well done Shaun Smart, Grant Howie and Liam Lynott filling the next three places.

Thanks to Wayne Sharman for running it and with over 20lb a man average each day it was fabulous silverfish sport.

Now’s the perfect time to get on Meadowlands for some cold-water action. Wayne’s even just popped some more smaller carp in Lambsdown to keep the bites coming. Carp were leaping clean out of the water all day in the middle of the lake and the margins were erupting as we packed up.
