Busy Getting Bites
A couple of contrasting catches at the weekend. Saturday was Rd2 of the Tunnel Barn teams of four. I managed to win New Pool from peg 24 with 87lb, which was also 5th in the match. Caught lots of F1s, mostly shallow and down the edge over Sonubaits Supercrush Expander and Thatchers. Not your average November tactics, but it was very mild!
Captain Jack Danby won the match (again) from Top Pool, but we had a couple of iffy results on Extension and House and the team ended up 3rd on the day. The new 2m XTR Short Match Kits with 8-10 and 10-12 Slik were perfect, with a 0.2g F1 Slim seeing the most action. Double red maggot was the best hook bait all day.
Sunday was Rd3 of the Solihull Angling Silvers league at Packington. I was once again 3rd on a very clear Molands lake, this time with 11lb 11oz from peg 52. Yet again couldn’t find any decent skimmers on a long pellet swim, so caught lots and lots of ‘sprats’ on maggots over Sonubaits F1 Dark. It was heaving with eyeballs and pike and carp slowed things down a few times (amazing what you can get in on silverfish tackle!) but it was still a busy day catching mostly tiny roach and rudd all over the peg. Can’t say it was that enjoyable a day, though, as most of the fish struggled to pull out a No5 elastic. It just felt like there wasn’t anything better in the swim and I just had to catch what I could all day. Fed a lot of maggots!
Hope you all caught a few if you managed to get out.
