Lake Win On Little Gearys

On Sunday it was my turn to be on Little Gearys for the penultimate round of the Packington Winter League. I’ve really struggled to string any results together on this league, so my expectations weren’t too high. However, I had a chat with venue master Lee Richards before the draw and he reckoned peg 21 could be good with the south westerly wind blowing that way. We were 1st and 2nd to draw and I duly went in the bag and pulled that peg out while he was down the other end on peg 3.

Must admit I quite fancied it, but I was really dithery the first three hours, swapping and changing way too much and just not going anywhere. Two hours to go I finally managed a 3lb F1 down the side. They’d finally decided to feed! For the rest of the match I worked a couple of edge swims with maggots and groundbait (Sonubaits Supercrush Green and Expander) and ended up with 71lb of big F1s.

A lake win and 2nd in the match behind Nick Jukes’ 76lb from Big Gearys. Definitely should have caught more but I was not really thinking straight all day…

Best rig was a 0.3g F1 Slim in 3ft of water with a 16 X2 to 0.12mm bottom and 10-12 Slik. I definitely didn’t fish great most of the match, but the peg carried me through and at least I did OK down the edges.

Always nice to catch the lovely big golden F1s that Packington is so famous for.
