Finally Got Back On The River!
After weeks of rain and floods I finally got back on the river two days ago! It’s been so frustrating to see flooded fields for so long. I found a nice big back eddy on the Avon and just took a feeder rod and some old bait, plus a nice sweet mix of Sonubaits Sweet Skimmer, Deep Water and Roach.
It wasn’t the easiest of sessions and something very sharp cut me off twice, losing two good fish and two good feeders, but I was very pleased with what I caught and five different species.
It should make a nice film. Hopefully the rivers will be float fishable very soon, too!

Hi John, what rod did you use for catching the bream on the river? I’m considering getting the Ethos XRC 11ft do you think that’s a good choice for bream fishing on a river?
Hi Michael, all depends what size of rivers you’re fishing really, but I think 12ft is a better length for most medium rivers like the Thames and Avon. I use an 11ft 10in model a lot. Just find the extra foot helps for casting with longer hooklengths, keeping line out the water and playing fish away from bankside vegetation. So the Ethos XRF 11.10ft / 3.6m Feeder 55g would be a better choice from that family.
For small river roving style work I use my 11ft Horizon Commercial which is similar to the XRC you are looking at, so that would be ideal for little rivers and tucking into tight swims etc but still plenty strong enough for chub etc.
