Match Win With 51lb Of Silvers
After a full day on the river I was absolutely cream-crackered the next morning, but I’d booked on the How End midweeker, so I was up early swapping all my gear back over. I thought I’d set off with plenty of time, but the traffic through Milton Keynes was horrific and it took me an hour and 45 minutes to drive just 40 miles! By the time I’d finally arrived at the fishery everyone was already at their pegs. Fortunately the last peg in the bag was a good one, peg 8 on Yasi’s, and it’s very simple fishing with just a couple of silverfish rigs required.
I had an amazing first couple of hours and then the sun’s come out and it’s got progressively harder with a biteless last 10 minutes, but I’d done more than enough and had a brilliant day’s sport. An hour to go I really wasn’t sure what I’d got, so I popped back for a second fishery keepnet, just in case. That turned out to be a wise move as it’s a 50lb net limit and I totalled 51lb 5oz for the win! Mostly ide, but some nice skimmers, one big roach, one tench and two crucians. All on maggots and pinkies, using similar tactics to my recent film at the venue.
Mark Pollard was second on the lake with 29lb and Andy Barrie won Dani’s and qualified with 37lb. I didn’t pack the cameras this time, but that’s my last match at How End before the big-money Final, so a great confidence booster.
