Back To The Lagoon
Just the one match at the weekend which was the Makins open. About 40 anglers spread across Snake, Reptile, Severn and Lagoon. I’ve found myself back on Lagoon. Peg 19 this time, which is normally a very good peg on there.
Had a great match with bites most of the day to weigh 130lb. Agonisingly 2lb shy of winning the lake as Dave Smith had 132lb off peg 22, which included a big old 18lb Lagoon warrior.
I’ve caught best on pellets, plus a few late on dead maggots. Surprisingly couldn’t get the meat to work despite catching on it last time when I was also second on the lake.
I’ve had the third best weight on the day with Sam Collett winning with 150lb from peg 1 on Severn and ended up 6th overall with the continental payout.
Great to be going back to Makins a little bit. Used to live 12 minutes away but now it’s just over an hour, but well worth the trip. The fish on Lagoon pull like demons. Lost a couple under the pallet and somehow knocked one off at the net, but was fortunate to drag a few out that looked irretrievable.
Used yellow 14-16 Slik for pellets with 0.2g and 0.3g Mud Line floats and green 16-18 Slik for maggots with a 0.5g Mud Line. Love this float for depths up to about 3ft as it’s strong and compact with a sensible 2mm bristle.
Back at Makins yesterday for a one-to-one coaching session on Avon, catching well on the feeder and a few late on the pole, although they strangely wouldn’t come down the edges. A couple of weeks earlier I was with someone on Thames, which is the lake directly behind. That day the margins was definitely where we had the most action. Every days different at Makins and those carp always keep you guessing!
