24lb Carp On The Pole!

After a nice break I’ve had a decent weekend at Packington with two matches on ‘moody’ Molands. Yesterday was the open match, which I fortunately managed to win with just over 100lb. Mostly carp on the method feeder, plus a few carp very late down the edge. The lake fished tough for most, so it was nice to be sat on a few fish.

Glugged my micros with a bit of Sonubaits Washed Out Bait Booster and also used a bit of Match Method Mix at times, with a 6mm fluoro pink Washed Out Bandum Wafter best to an X7 Carp Method hook and 0.20 Soft Steel.

Today I was back on Molands for Round 5 of the Matrix Commercial Champs. Started on the feeder again, but it took 45 minutes to catch a baby F1, so I knew it was going to be a long old slog. Eventually managed a few much bigger carp, but bites were very few and far between.

Last hour I expected things to really pick up but I only caught two fish. Thankfully one of them was a lovely 12lb+ ghostie on the feeder. The other was a colossal 24lb 1oz common, my only bite on the pole down the edge! It put up a hell of a fight with 18-20 Slik and a 0.23 Soft Steel hooklength just about coping!

My hard-earned 85lb total was 3rd on the lake and 2nd in section behind Phil Canning’s 135lb on the feeder. Neil Carless won the lake with 136lb and they both framed, so I got a nice default section prize for my efforts.

A decent weekend catching some great looking fish. Last round’s at Barston…
