Three Match Wins On The Trot
A surprisingly good result on Round 9 of the Tunnel Barn teams of four today. My team was last to draw and it was a bit deflating seeing all the usual flyers vanish before we were given the leftovers. There were some top teams with great sets of pegs while ours looked very average. I clearly know nothing…

I trudged to peg 28 on New Pool. Definitely not one I’d pick. I drew it two rounds ago and did rubbish. However, you have plenty of room IF they decide to feed. Plus, after all the rain, the lake was full to the brim, so a bit more water to go at.
Well after an hour and 15 minutes I’d got nothing in the net and was getting worried! I’d missed a few bites long, but never hit any of them and was wasting time. I dropped back short and finally had a little F1. That was the start of a good run of fish, all on maggots. Phew!
My peg just got stronger and stronger and the last couple of hours were amazing, catching some big old F1s down the edge. Again maggots were the boss bait and they responded really well to a 50/50 mix of Sonubaits Supercrush Green and Expander.
I’ve only caught on two rigs all day; 0.2g and 0.3g Matrix F1 Slims, 0.10 hooklength, size 18 X2 hook with 8-10 Slik in a 2m Short Kit.
After a blazing finish I’ve totalled 103lb and won the match. Can’t believe it! First ton of the year and three match wins on the bounce as well.
The icing on the cake was our team somehow won the day too! Still not quite sure how we managed that? Must say a big thanks to Kev Dales filling in for our team at late notice for captain Jack and coming back with maximum points. Ben and James also put in solid performances.
We’re now just three points adrift of the leaders with one round to go. It would be nice to retain our trophy, but as today proves, anything could happen!
Fully expecting a much tougher day on the Packington winter league tomorrow…
