Don’t Forget Your Tackle!
Saturday I was on the Tunnel Barn open and had a really tough day on New 15. Not the best of draws, but worth more than the paltry 44lb I caught. Managed to mug two good carp early for a positive start, but it went downhill after that. Fished it all wrong but also don’t feel I could’ve ever framed from there on the day. It was rock hard for most of us on such a sunny and flat calm day and you needed a bit of shade.
Well done Aid Mansfield winning our lake with 96lb from peg 33 and Nick Jamieson winning Extension with 103lb from peg 29.
‘Highlight’ of my day was getting 30 miles towards home before having to make a swift u-turn back to the fishery. Sarah at Tunnel rang me saying I’d left my pole and all top kits behind my peg!
Sunday I paid a trip to Makins for the open, which was spread across Avon, Thames, Lagoon and Lizard. Did a really nice coaching day at Makins a week ago and the fishery’s looking great at the moment.

I’ve drawn peg 30 on Lagoon and with the sun out and a breeze that way I was praying it’d be mugging central. Sadly hardly any fish at all were on top, which was very surprising.
I eventually managed three cruisers but in the absence of bites anywhere else I’ve caught the rest of my 109lb down the edge on meat over Sonubaits Match Method Mix.
I was second on the lake and got the section prize behind Mark Griffiths who won the lake with 120lb from peg 19. Well done Steve Crocker winning the match with 154lb from Avon.
Great to finally get some yellow 14-16 and green 16-18 Slik stretching again and the XTR 700 easily coped with some rather angry fish. Used a 0.2g Matrix Dibber for mugging and a 0.4g Mud Line for edge fishing. Both on 0.20mm Soft Steel.
