Live Match-Winning Action
Here’s a video I put together from my first silverfish-only match of the season at Dog Lane Fishery. Despite the wind and rain I won the match with 22lb!
I caught best by alternating two short-pole swims; one with maggot and the other with worm. First drop I hooked a rogue carp, then another four in the first hour and an odd one all match. Great fun on 6-8 Slik elastic! However, I also had some nice skimmers of all sizes, plus a few roach and a couple of perch to 14oz down the side. My match really dwindled in the third and fourth hour, but I thankfully managed a really late surge of fish to seal the win.
Best rig for the 4ft swim was a 4×14 (0.4g) Malman Secret on 0.14mm Power Micron to a 0.09mm bottom, 18 hook and 6-8 Slik.
Also thought I’d experiment with a different mix, which was mostly Dynamite Fishmeal Bream, plus Milled Expander and Black Swim Stim. The fish seemed to like it!
Rich Wills was 2nd with 19lb, Pete Bennett was 3rd with 18lb and Dave Armstrong was 4th and also won the best perch prize with 17lb.
Double flask and longjohns next time!
