Lindholme Golden Reel

Just the one match again this weekend, so thought I’d have a long trip up to Lindholme Lakes for the Golden Reel qualifier.

I was there nice and early and discovered there were only 50-odd fishing it, so had a pre-match walk around the three pools, the Bonsai, the Willows and the Laurels (You’ve got to add the ‘the’ when you’re up t’North!).

The wind was hacking down one end, so I typically pulled out a peg up the top end of the Laurels where it was flat calm. I ended up with 65lb with 87lb winning the lake down the other end. We all had a bit of room though, so you never know.

I caught a handful of fish shallow, a few on the deck but mostly down the edge. I couldn’t work out what bait was best to be honest, but settled on maggots as had no silverfish trouble whatsoever. As I was warned, the fish were coming in to the peg but not settling and quickly bolting away. I possibly could’ve had another 20lb for a lake win if I’d made a few better decisions, but would’ve needed a few muggers or the wind hacking my way to trouble the match winner.

Well done my hero Nick Speed on the win from the Willows 50 with 115lb.
