Coaching With Aaron At Packington

There is still some great winter sport to be had out there, as Aaron and I discovered after a nice day at Packington Fisheries. We chose a sheltered swim on Gratuities Lake and the main target was silverfish – but we also gave ourselves a fighting chance if any carp came along.

Despite the lake being really clear, Aaron was into fish from the off. A nice perch was first on the scene, then roach and then a procession of chunky skimmers arrived. It’s these skimmers that I really love to target, as there are so many little things you can do with your rigs and feeding to keep the bites coming. A few carp also gate-crashed the party and were great fun on light silverfish tackle!

This was also Aaron’s first outing with his flashy new Matrix MTX3 pole and it’s fair to say he was really pleased with its performance. His pole elastic was set a little too tight for my liking, however, so halfway through the session I leant him one of my top kits fitted with softer 6-8 Slik elastic to try. That made a noticeable difference when playing fish and helped to keep fish on the hook much better.

A huge thanks to Packington Fishery for having us. Gratuities is a lake I’ve not fished much, but it’s really whetted my appetite to have another go on there soon!

If anyone else is after a coaching session this winter I’ve reduced my rates until the end of February 2019. I’ve also just finished putting together some Gift Vouchers, just in time for Christmas! Please contact me for further details.
