Three Nice Ones For Starters

Well we are finally back match fishing and I’ve managed three matches and three nice pick-ups so far. Things started off with a mini heatwave and 22ºC temperatures, but now we’ve plummeted to shivering in 6ºC just a couple of days later. Brrrr!

My first match after lockdown was a nice little open at Tunnel Barn where I was handed Peg 22 on Top Pool. A really sunny day and it’s fished very iffy with the F1s hardly feeding up our end of the lake. Half of my catch was big carp to 10lb caught on mugging rigs and the rest was mostly small F1s down the sides. I also dragged a couple of sunken trees out, which seem to be following me around everywhere I go!

My hard-earned 85lb was enough for 3rd overall and a couple of envelopes. Well done Gaz Makin for 2nd with 89lb off peg 31 and Joe Skinner winning comfortably down the windward end of the lake with 122lb off peg 1. Nice to be back!

Next up was the Good Friday afternooner at Tunnel Barn. I came 4th out of 35 anglers with 89lb off Canal 9. A really strange day on a peg I really didn’t fancy, but I had quite a technical match, catching mostly on pellets down the sides. I should’ve had 100lb but once the fish started kicking up decaying leaves it got frustratingly difficult! Well done Steve Conway trouncing the match off Jennys Pool.

Yesterday I won Meadow Pool and was Joint 3rd overall on the Fish’O’Mania qualifier at Moorlands Farm. With fishery owner Grant Albutt on the next peg and Jamie Hughes directly opposite I knew it was a decent area! It’s fished really hard for everyone with a chilly wind and clear water and the fish have sat sulking in the middle of the lake all day. I ended up with 71lb of big old grizzly things, mostly on pellet shallow, which is a lovely way to catch them. Well done Ben Lockwood with a nice win off Bank Pool.

Today I will be mostly hiding and hunting for choccy eggs, then hopefully eating one or two if my daughter lets me. Have a good Easter everyone!
