Bagging At The Bowl On The Pole
This is the first chance I’ve had to report back on a cracking day’s pole fishing with Mathew at Bishops Bowl Fishery. We headed for White Bishop Lake at the venue and had plenty of action as he got to grips with his new Matrix MTX1 pole.
After doing a previous coaching session on here I was confident we could start on 6mm hard pellets on the short pole and this proved a wise move with quality carp from the very first drop. It was a nice way to kick things off before moving to the long pole and shallow fishing. A few carp showed up in the water, plus some decent bream and even a couple of surprise tench!
With the long pole and short pole covered it was time to go down the margins. This was a little trickier as the bottom was uneven and the fish were proving quite clever, but a few tweaks to the depth and feeding and we were soon back in business.
For a newcomer to pole fishing Mathew picked things up exceptionally fast. In fact, it was only when I sat on his box for a go that a fish ploughed through the reeds and broke his hooklength. Of course, I deliberately did that just to prove we’re all capable of mishaps… honest! 😉
Once again a big thanks to Bishops Bowl for having us. It fished exceptionally well on the day with plenty of action for ourselves and numerous pleasure anglers on the lake and plenty of carp and tench having a chew. This lake was closed for a rest after our visit, but I gather it will be reopening very soon. Personally I cannot wait to get back on there as it’s such a nice lake to fish and you never quite know what you’ll hook next!
