Three Wins In Three Days!
Having a bit of a fishing marathon this week as November is a quiet month for coaching.
Tuesday I had a brilliant time on the River Severn with Kelvin Tallett, catching big roach and dace on a bolo rig down the middle. Absolutely awesome fishing. Hopefully I have a video from the day I can pop up soon…
The next day I’ve gone to the opposite end of the scale for a nice little midweeker at Rolfs Lake. Only a small match but it’s such a special venue with some stunning big fish to target and a nice and friendly atmosphere. I travelled there with my old mate Dave Armstrong and we typically drew next to each other with Dave on peg 13 and me on peg 10. This area’s sometimes called ‘no carp bay’ but that was certainly not the case today! I got off to an amazing start with a 20lb 4oz mirror on my first drop. Ended up with 15 fish for a match-winning 197lb. What a day!
Caught most of them shallow at 14.5m, anything from 2ft to 3.5ft deep. Used my MTX4 pole with 12-14 Slik, but stepped up to 14-16 once I realised how well things were going. Later on I snared two big commons to 18lb by casting a little 4g Matrix Finesse Pellet Waggler to the aerator, flexing my Horizon 12ft Waggler to the max!
Last 20 minutes I caught three good fish down the edge; one on dead reds and two on a 6mm Pro Expander. On this line I used a 0.2g Pablo RWC Warrior with a 14 MXC2 hook and 12-14 Slik. I wouldn’t dream of using elastic that light here in summer, but it was lovely today. Never ever expected a near-200lb catch and fishing shallow in November!
Thursday and Friday was the Solihull Angling Centre silverfish two-dayer held on Big Gearys Lake at Packington. I won Day 1 with 44lb of skimmers and a nice little tench from peg 16. Next day I won the match again, this time with 33lb of skimmers from peg 12. I also netted nine of the newly stocked ghost mirrors to 2lb, which I had to chuck straight back!
Used Sonubaits F1, Supercrush Expander and Thatchers both days with either maggot or worm on the hook. A nice pickup and two cracking days skimmer bashing to cap off an epic week’s fishing!
