At Makins With Matthew

Some photos from an enjoyable coaching session last week at Makins Fishery. Matthew comes from more of a specimen fishing background, but has recently kitted himself out with a new pole and wanted some advice on how to get the best from it.

A session on Lake 3 proved an ideal place to get plenty of bites and some elastic stretching. We set up rigs to cover full-depth and shallow tactics and with a simple pellet and sweetcorn approach he was soon sliding the net under some of the lake’s hard-fighting residents.

What proved interesting on the day was that the carp definitely wanted to be off the bottom no matter how we fed. Matthew even caught on pellets at half depth down the margins, which was a great way to end a busy session.
