Cracking The Canal

Some photos from a memorable session that Steve and I had at Alvechurch Fishery. I’ve done several coaching days on Horseshoe Lake, but this was the first time I’d done anything on Canal. This is a brilliant snake-style water with reeds on the inside and plenty of cover across to the island.

We caught predominantly decent carp early doors fishing pellets short and down the side, before plundering even more carp up in the water. I think we were both surprised just how good the shallow fishing was and Steve enjoyed experimenting with different ways of fooling the fish. Later on we switched to feeding maggots down one margin and this also proved an eye opener as both the barbel and carp lapped them up!

Steve ended up with a cracking net of fish for the cameras and hopefully plenty of tips and tricks for his forthcoming club matches. A big thanks to Alvechurch Fishery for having us both!
