Bob Taylor Memorial 2021

Bob ‘The Maggot’ Taylor

Paying huge respect to the one and only Bob ’The Maggot’ Taylor, this year’s event was held at Leamington AA’s Snitterfield Reservoir.

Bright sunshine, clear water and a healthy attendance meant the reservoir fished extremely difficult on the day. Bob enjoyed scratching for bites on half a squatt, however, so he would have loved it… and he would probably have won! It was also brilliant to hear a dog woofing chorus instead of the usual starting whistle in homage to ‘Barking’ Bob!

This year’s champion was Stuart Campton with a hard-earned 13lb 9oz from peg 10. After struggling on pellets early doors he made the tactical switch to chopped worm at 9m and was rewarded with some quality skimmers and tench.

Just 2oz behind was Jon ‘End Peg’ Arthur on peg 1 with 13lb 7oz. He caught a mixed bag on the long pole with pinkies and chopped worm over groundbait.

Third place went to Andy Bruce on peg 8 with 9lb 12oz of skimmers on red maggot over casters. Fourth place was Kevin Folwell with 9lb 7oz of crucians and roach.

The match was expertly run and organised by Dave Armstrong with Mark Butler also helping with pegging and weighing in duties. Bob’s family was also in attendance and with donations and an excellent raffle a fine £385 was raised for charity.

Here’s to next year’s event. Woof!
