4th In The Winter League Final

What a cracking day I had on the Angling Trust Winter League Team Champs Final, split between Decoy Lakes and the Fenland drains. I’ve continued a great run at Decoy by winning Horseshoe Lake from end peg 19 with 58kg (128lb) which was also the 4th best weight on the day out of 150 anglers.

It was a weird old day, though, with a sharp frost in the morning and it had gone so clear that I could see carp zooming by 3ft down! I’ve basically mugged 13 or 14 carp in the first half of the match as nothing wanted to feed at all until the last 40 minutes, when I’ve finally caught four down the edge on corn over Sonubaits Fin Perfect micros and Washed Out Bait Booster. Nice to get the yellow 14-16 Slik stretching too!

Teamwise after much kerfuffling we discovered my Oxford squad had tied with 3rd place but were 4th on section count backs, so just missed out on a bronze medal. Still a great effort against 30 top teams of 10. Big well done to Preston innovations Black Horse on the team win, Wakefield on 2nd and Mosella Quaker on 3rd.

Oh, and ‘mugging’ in February sounds like a one-off in winter, but I actually did a video on exactly the same thing this time last year on Willow Lake!
