Back On The River

It was so nice to be back on a natural venue with a fish-packed session on the River Thames at Culham with Tim Nix. This section is controlled by Sutton-Courtenay AC and definitely one of my favourite stretches.

This session was an out-and-out pole day for silvers and with a nice bit of flow and a touch of colour it fished really well. There is no shortage of fish in this river but the hardest part is often getting through the hordes of bleak and tiny fish up in the water to the better quality fish underneath them.

We fed my favourite mix of Dynamite Frenzied Hemp Match Black, Canal & Lake and Black Roach, laced with hemp and casters. Caster was definitely the way early doors, but switching to hemp and then my lovingly prepared tares worked great. At times Tim was catching roach and hybrids as little as 4ft deep in 9ft of water!

The fish fed well… and so did we after scoffing Tim’s very fancy white chocolate, amaretto and apricot cookies!

A huge thanks to Sutton-Courtenay Angling Club for allowing us to fish their water.
